PROFESSIONAL AFTERCARE
Premium human hair requires consistent care. Your installation, products, styling routine, heat use and nighttime protection all affect how the hair looks, moves and wears.
Before You Begin
Use this guide as a foundation, then follow the advice of your licensed installer or color professional for your specific service.
Before Installation
- Inspect the hair while all packaging, ties, labels and applicable seals remain intact.
- Confirm the texture, color, length, quantity and product type.
- Address any order concern before washing or altering the hair.
- Once satisfied, prepare the hair according to your professional installer’s method.
- Plan the installation, blending and cutting before altering the bundles.
Once hair is washed, colored, cut, installed or otherwise altered, it is no longer eligible for exchange.
Cleansing
- Detangle gently before cleansing.
- Use lukewarm water instead of very hot water.
- Apply a moisturizing shampoo in a downward motion.
- Do not rub, twist, bunch or scrub the hair together.
- Rinse thoroughly to prevent product buildup.
- Cleanse according to wear and buildup rather than following an unnecessarily frequent schedule.
For installed hair, keep the scalp and foundation clean without rough handling. Ensure that the natural hair, braids, bonds, attachment points and foundation dry completely.
Conditioning
- Apply conditioner from the mid-lengths through the ends.
- Use a lightweight moisturizing formula that rinses clean.
- Detangle in small sections with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb.
- Begin at the ends and work upward while supporting the hair above the section being detangled.
- Rinse thoroughly.
Heavy oils, waxes, butters and thick product buildup can weigh down the hair and attract residue. Use styling products sparingly.
Drying
- Blot excess water with a microfiber towel or soft cotton T-shirt.
- Do not rub the hair aggressively.
- Air-dry whenever practical, especially for curly textures.
- When blow-drying, use heat protectant and controlled heat.
- Ensure that the scalp, foundation, wefts and attachment areas are completely dry before sleeping or styling.
Sleeping with wet or damp extensions can contribute to matting, odor, tangling and stress around the installation.
Detangling
- Divide the hair into manageable sections.
- Begin at the ends and move upward.
- Support the hair near the weft, bond, clip or attachment point.
- Use your fingers, a wide-tooth comb or an extension-appropriate brush.
- Never pull forcefully through a knot.
- Detangle before bedtime and before cleansing.
Some shedding is normal for human-hair extensions, especially after cutting wefts, repeated manipulation or extended wear. Rough detangling and improper installation can increase shedding.
Heat Styling
- Apply a heat protectant before using thermal tools.
- Begin with the lowest temperature that produces the desired result.
- Limit repeated passes over the same section.
- Avoid applying direct heat to bonds, tapes, clips or attachment points.
- Allow heated tools to cool before placing them near stored hair.
Repeated or excessive heat can cause dryness, split ends and loss of the hair’s original wave or curl pattern.
Curly and Wavy Textures
- Refresh the hair with water and a small amount of lightweight leave-in conditioner.
- Detangle while the hair is damp and divided into sections.
- Shape curls with your fingers or an appropriate detangling tool.
- Avoid aggressively brushing curls while dry.
- Allow the texture to air-dry or diffuse it using controlled heat.
- Separate the curls after drying when additional volume is desired.
Curl patterns may appear tighter and shorter than straight hair of the same measured length. Stretching, high heat and chemical processing can change the original pattern.
Straight and Textured-Straight Hair
- Wrap or loosely braid the hair before sleeping.
- Use a lightweight serum only when needed.
- Avoid repeated flat-ironing to correct problems caused by product buildup.
- Cleanse and condition before increasing the heat.
- For Textured Straight, avoid pressing away all natural body unless a sleeker finish is intended.
Nighttime Care
- Detangle the hair gently.
- Place straight or wavy hair in a loose wrap or braid.
- Place curly hair in loose sections or a high, low-tension arrangement.
- Cover the hair with a satin or silk bonnet or scarf.
- Use a satin or silk pillowcase for additional protection.
- Never sleep with wet hair.
Swimming and Exercise
Chlorine, salt water, sweat and friction can dry or tangle extensions.
Before swimming
- Detangle the hair.
- Saturate it with clean water and apply a small amount of lightweight conditioner.
- Secure the hair in a loose braid or protective arrangement.
After swimming or heavy exercise
- Rinse the hair promptly.
- Cleanse when necessary.
- Condition and detangle gently.
- Dry the hair and installation foundation completely.
Professional Coloring
Human hair can respond differently after chemical processing. Always perform a strand test before coloring the complete product.
HaiRx strongly recommends professional color services. Lightening, bleaching, toning, permanent color and chemical texture changes can reduce softness, alter curl formation, increase dryness and shorten the useful wear of the hair.
Do not color extensions while they are installed unless the licensed professional performing the service confirms that the installation and attachment system can safely support it.
Care by Product Type
Bundles and 4×4 Closures
Avoid excessive tension, rough brushing near the wefts and product buildup at the closure base. Closures are delicate and should not be aggressively plucked or overprocessed.
Seamless Clip-Ins
Remove clip-ins before sleeping, showering or swimming. Close the clips before storage. Detangle each piece and store it flat or in a clean extension bag away from moisture and direct sunlight.
K-Tips and Tape-Ins
Use only attachment-safe products recommended by your installer. Keep oils and conditioner away from bonds and tape tabs. Schedule maintenance according to your professional installation plan.
Custom HaiRxPieces
Store your unit on a clean mannequin head or unit stand. Detangle after wear, keep the base clean and avoid unnecessary tension when applying or removing the piece.
Boho Human Hair
Refresh exposed curls with water and a lightweight leave-in product. Separate gently with your fingers. Keep the braided foundation clean and completely dry.
When to Contact a Professional
Seek professional assistance if you experience excessive matting, unusual shedding, slipping attachments, scalp discomfort, broken bonds, lifting tape, damaged wefts or difficulty detangling.
Continuing to pull, add heat or layer products over the problem can make it worse.
The HaiRx Care Standard
Hair extensions are not maintenance-free. A consistent routine helps protect softness, movement, curl definition and the finished appearance of your installation.
